Mermaids: The Body Found factuality controversy

Animal Planet faced criticism after airing Mermaids: The Body Found, a fictional documentary that used documentary conventions and speculative claims about mermaids. The program's presentation raised concerns about whether viewers could mistake the entertainment production for factual reporting. A follow-up special, Mermaids: The New Evidence, later achieved record ratings for the channel.
