Amsinck plantation ownership and slavery in Suriname

A Dutch Amsinck branch owned the Meerzorg plantation in Suriname, where wealth was connected to the colonial plantation economy and enslaved labor. After emancipation in 1863, heirs received compensation. The family name also persisted in the surnames Amsinck and Amzink adopted by some formerly enslaved people.
