    Prestige oil spill litigation

After the Prestige tanker sank off the coast of Galicia in 2002 and caused extensive pollution, Spain sued ABS in the Southern District of New York, alleging that the classification society had acted recklessly in certifying the vessel. The case was dismissed, and the Second Circuit later upheld the result, citing legal and evidentiary grounds that prevented Spain from establishing the claimed liability.
