Lockheed bribery affair
During negotiations over ANA's selection of Lockheed L-1011 aircraft, Lockheed indirectly bribed Japanese Prime Minister Kakuei Tanaka. The affair led to arrests involving Tanaka, ANA managers, and representatives of Lockheed's Japanese sales agent Marubeni. The corruption case concerned aircraft procurement and political influence rather than an allegation that ANA's passenger services were unsafe.
