Arthur same-sex wedding episode is not broadcast

APT declined to air an Arthur episode featuring a same-sex wedding and substituted an earlier episode. Its program director said the decision reflected concerns about children viewing the material without their parents. PBS subsequently offered the episode online for a limited time. APT had made a similar decision involving a same-sex couple in Postcards from Buster in 2005.

FCC license-renewal dispute over excluded programming

APT management had refused to air some programming about the Vietnam War and African-American communities after state officials objected to such material. The FCC delayed renewal and briefly revoked the Alabama Educational Television Commission's licenses. The dispute raised questions about political pressure, public funding, and editorial independence in state-operated broadcasting.
