Overview
Agoda is a Singapore-headquartered online travel platform and a subsidiary of Booking Holdings. Its core business connects travelers with hotels, resorts, vacation properties and other accommodation providers through a website and mobile applications. Users can search destinations, compare available options, review prices and conditions, and complete reservations digitally. The platform also provides selected flight, activity, airport-transfer and other ground-transportation services, with availability varying by market and supplier. The company was founded in 2005 by American entrepreneurs Michael Kenny and Robert Rosenstein. Its early development was rooted in Asian online accommodation booking: Kenny had previously established Phuket-based travel businesses PlanetHoliday.com and PrecisionReservations.com, whose operations were incorporated into Agoda. This initial regional focus helped the brand build accommodation supply and local-market expertise in Asia before expanding its reach internationally. In 2007, Agoda was acquired by Booking Holdings, then known as The Priceline Group. The transaction placed Agoda alongside brands including Priceline and KAYAK while allowing it to retain its own identity, customer proposition and operating platform. Booking Holdings provided access to broader international resources, technology capabilities and commercial relationships, while Agoda remained particularly associated with Asian destinations and travelers. Agoda expanded its digital product capabilities as mobile travel usage increased. It released iOS and Android applications in 2011. Following Booking Holdings' acquisition of Israeli marketing-technology startup Qlika in 2014, members of the Qlika team joined Agoda and contributed to the automation and scaling of marketing systems. Agoda opened a research center in Tel Aviv later that year. Booking Holdings' 2016 acquisition of Taipei-based WooMoo also brought a product-prototyping team to Agoda's Bangkok operations. During the late 2010s, Agoda broadened from accommodation into a more comprehensive travel marketplace. It introduced airport transfers through a partnership with Mozio in 2018 and began offering flight bookings in 2019. It also launched business-to-business products, including a white-label platform, allowing partners to provide travel-booking functionality under their own customer interfaces. A 2019 brand refresh introduced a redesigned logo, custom typeface and circular cartoon mascots known as Agojis. Agoda's business model depends on aggregating travel inventory, presenting it through digital search and merchandising tools, and processing reservations between customers and travel suppliers. Its offerings can include discounted or members-only rates, multilingual interfaces, localized payment options and mobile-specific services. The platform's position is therefore based less on owning hotels or transportation assets than on marketplace breadth, technology, local supply relationships and customer acquisition. The brand has also faced scrutiny concerning listing accuracy, pricing and discount presentation, refunds, unregistered accommodation and reservation-system reliability. Authorities and consumer organizations in several markets have questioned whether listings accurately reflect supplier availability and whether promotional displays and booking processes are sufficiently clear. These issues are material to Agoda because its customer experience depends on accurate data exchange between the platform, accommodation providers and other inventory partners. Agoda experienced major pandemic-related disruption and announced approximately 1,500 layoffs in May 2020. Leadership changed in 2018 when co-founder Rob Rosenstein became chairman and strategic adviser, while chief operating officer John Wroughton Brown became chief executive. Brown resigned in 2022 and was succeeded by Omri Morgenshtern, a product executive who had joined Agoda through the Qlika inte…
History
Agoda was established in Singapore in 2005 by Michael Kenny and Robert Rosenstein. Kenny had previously created PlanetHoliday.com and PrecisionReservations.com in Phuket, and those businesses formed part of the foundation of Agoda's early operations. The new company concentrated on online accommodation reservations, particularly in Asian markets where local knowledge, supplier relationships and multilingual distribution could help differentiate it from larger Western travel sites. Agoda's initial platform allowed travelers to search accommodation, compare prices and make reservations online. Its supply model did not depend on owning hotels; instead, the company aggregated inventory from hotels and other lodging providers and earned revenue through travel transactions and supplier relationships. As internet adoption and digital payments grew, the platform expanded its destination coverage and customer base. In 2007, Booking Holdings, then called The Priceline Group, acquired Agoda. The acquisition made Agoda part of a wider portfolio of online travel brands while preserving the Agoda name and customer-facing identity. The company used the parent group's international scale and technology resources but continued to emphasize Asian markets and local travel demand. Agoda subsequently developed additional capabilities in mobile applications, marketing automation and product experimentation. Agoda launched iOS and Android applications in July 2011. In 2014, after Booking Holdings acquired Israeli startup Qlika, members of the Qlika team joined Agoda. Their work supported automated and scalable marketing systems, and Agoda opened a research center in Tel Aviv in November 2014. In 2016, the team behind Taipei-based mobile-prototyping startup WooMoo moved to Bangkok after Booking Holdings acquired WooMoo. The company broadened its marketplace during the late 2010s. Airport transfers were introduced in 2018 through Mozio, and flight bookings followed in 2019. Agoda also began offering B2B products, including white-label technology that allowed partners to incorporate travel-booking capabilities into their own channels. A 2019 visual identity refresh introduced a new logo, custom font and Agoji mascots derived from the logo's circular forms. Growth was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2020, Agoda announced approximately 1,500 layoffs as international travel collapsed. The business later continued to operate as a broad travel marketplace, combining accommodation with flights, activities and selected transportation services. Leadership also evolved: in 2018 co-founder Rob Rosenstein became chairman and a strategic adviser to Booking Holdings, John Wroughton Brown became CEO, and Omri Morgenshtern became COO. Brown resigned in 2022, after which Morgenshtern became CEO. Agoda's history also includes regulatory and consumer-protection challenges. Authorities in Thailand and Taiwan sought the removal of illegal or unregistered accommodation listings. In the United Kingdom, the Competition and Markets Authority investigated discount presentation, hidden charges, urgency tactics and search-result ordering involving Agoda and other online travel agencies. The company has also faced complaints involving refunds, listings for unavailable properties and mismatches between hotel inventory and platform reservations. Japanese authorities and suppliers raised similar concerns in 2025, while a separate Singapore labor dispute concerned restrictive clauses in severance agreements. Agoda apologized in that case and clarified the affected arrangements. Today Agoda is an active Booking Holdings subsidiary serving travelers and accommodation partners internationally. Its principal competitive assets are its travel-supply marketplace, localized distribution, mobile and web booking tools, partner technology and association with Booking Holdings' global travel ecosystem. Its service quality remains dependent on the accuracy, timeliness and commercial terms of inventory supplied by hotels, airlines, transport operators and activity providers.

Products and positioning
A technology-led international online travel marketplace with deep roots in Asian accommodation markets and a broad consumer travel-booking proposition.
Accommodation bookingOnline travel services2005
Agoda's foundational offering allows users to search and reserve hotels, resorts, vacation properties and other forms of lodging. The service combines destination search, availability and price comparison, property information, customer reviews and digital booking workflows. Accommodation remains the brand's central product and its strongest historical association, particularly in Asian markets. Inventory, payment methods, cancellation rules and promotional rates depend on the destination, property and supplier agreement.
Flight bookingAir travel2019
Agoda's flight product extends the platform beyond lodging by allowing users in supported markets to search and book airline itineraries. It presents flight options and associated conditions through the Agoda interface, although route coverage, airline participation, fare rules and servicing arrangements vary. The product supports Agoda's broader ambition to act as a multi-product travel marketplace rather than a hotel-only intermediary.
Activities and attractionsTravel experiences
Agoda offers selected destination activities, attractions and experiences. These products complement accommodation reservations by helping travelers arrange sightseeing, admission, tours and other local activities through a single travel platform. Availability and fulfillment are market-specific because the inventory is supplied by local operators and experience providers.
Airport transfersGround transportation2018
The airport-transfer service enables travelers to arrange selected airport-to-destination ground transportation. It was introduced through a partnership with Mozio and is intended to connect the arrival or departure journey with the accommodation-booking process. Service types, destinations, vehicle options, pricing and supplier responsibility differ by market.
B2B and white-label booking technologyTravel technology2019
Agoda's B2B offering provides travel-booking capabilities to commercial partners, including white-label functionality. Rather than requiring partners to direct customers to Agoda's consumer-facing site, these tools can support travel distribution through another company's interface or channel. The product reflects Agoda's role as both a consumer brand and a supplier of digital travel-commerce infrastructure.
