PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero), abbreviated as INKA, is an Indonesian state-owned rolling stock manufacturer[1] it is the only rolling stock manufacturer in Southeast Asia. The Indonesian Government holds the majority of shares through Danantara.
They are currently the largest manufacturer of new rolling stock used on intercity railway lines on the islands of Java, Sumatra and Sulawesi [2] Its first rolling stock manufacturing plant, in Madiun, East Java is a former PJKA locomotive overhaul facility. The national strategic plan, under President Suharto called for the formation of a domestic railway manufacturing industry, which would later form as PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero)
History
PT Industri Kereta Api (Persero) was established by the Indonesian government on May 1981 to serve as the national rolling stock manufacturer, and to manage PJKA’s steam locomotive maintenance depots, which were converted into rolling stock manufacturing plants.
