“100% natural” advertising controversy
After a 2006 U.S. reformulation, 7UP was promoted with a broad “100% natural” claim. Consumer advocates challenged whether that description was appropriate, particularly because the U.S. product contained high-fructose corn syrup and no fruit juice. The Center for Science in the Public Interest threatened legal action, after which the claim was withdrawn and replaced with “100% Natural Flavors.”
