Fulinmen soybean salad oil exceeds acid value, notified by Ministry of Health for recall; Fulinmen questions procedure

In December 2004, the Ministry of Health notified that 1.8-liter Fulinmen pure soybean salad oil (production date 2003-11-26) had an acid value of 0.45, exceeding the national standard of 0.3, and required the producer to recall it. Fulinmen said a retest result was 0.15 and qualified, questioned the legality of the sampling procedure, and was reported as saying it would 'go to court with the Ministry of Health,' then later stated it had never made that remark. In a 2014 Heilongjiang sampling inspection, Fulinmen non-GMO soybean oil produced by COFCO Jiayue (Tianjin) again failed on acid value. The problematic products were recalled; the public confrontation between the company and the regulator sparked controversy.
