Ethical controversy surrounding China clinical trials
A China-based clinical trial involving ginseng pills became controversial after participant Shen Xinlian, described as an illiterate farmer, was allegedly enrolled without proper informed consent despite elevated blood pressure. She later developed severe hypertension and died of uremia. Her family sued the trial institutions but failed to prove causation.
