Aircraft-seat testing and certification controversy
Koito Industries faced regulatory and industry backlash after allegations that aircraft-seat tests omitted portions of required procedures and used data from earlier tests. The issue affected more than 150,000 seats installed in over 1,000 Airbus and Boeing aircraft operated by 32 airlines in 24 countries. It led to aircraft-delivery disruptions and restrictions by Airbus and Boeing. Koito attributed the conduct to the combination of heavy order volumes and tight schedules.
